1.0 Not so good

I thought that pumps were pretty straight-forward until I brought this one home and tried to use it on my presta-valve wheels. It has a head that is supposed to work on both presta and schrader valves. It may work well for schrader valves (I don't have any), but it is terrible for presta valves. I've had it now for about a year and cannot figure out why it works only intermittenly. Most of the time what happens is after attaching the head, it does not allow me to pump air into the tire. It is as if there is a plug at the end of the hose. Every once in a while it does work, but I have no idea why. I have an old Silca pump that has served me well for years, but parts are getting harder to find, so thought I'd try this. I plan to return it to REI and find another.

5.0 Works quite well

I read too many bad reviews for floor pumps, even on the expensive ones, and for a while I decided to stick with my trusty hand pump until I got tired of it. I bought this since it had decent reviews (here and on [@]), and so far it's served me well on my nice road bike (with presta valves). The gauge is nice, the valve/lever has consistently sealed with my presta valves, pumping is quite easy even at 120psi, and overall the build quality of the pump seems good. The only minor thing I don't like is the sharp plastic edges where I'd typically pick up the pump, but that's not really an issue.

I'm reviewing because it looks like the pump is about to die and I need a new one. It feels like it's starting to leak and becoming a little more difficult to use because of that.
Why am I giving it five stars? Because I purchased it in 2005. EIGHT YEARS AGO. That gives it a PHENOMENAL bang for the buck.
I bought it because once I upgraded my road bike, I started needing to pump to 100-120psi and my old pump couldn't do that. I didn't know anything about high-pressure pumps and the sales associate recommended this one. Nowadays, I'm a competitive triathlete (gone to Kona) and crit racer (cat 2). i.e. I ride A LOT. Meaning, I use this pump a lot.
My tri bike runs 120psi and latex tubes year round, which means I'm pumping them up to 120psi literally before every single ride. My road bike gets pumped up every few days, to 100/110psi. Suffice to say that with my riding volume, I use this pump for high pressure very often. Hundreds of times a year, minimum. Since 2005. You can do the math.
I've definitely put this pump through its paces. Never let me down. It has a large and stable base so it doesn't tip over easily. The gauge is easy to read and is at the top of the cylinder versus at the ground so it's closer to you. The gauge has a marker so you can move the red marker to your desired psi, making things even easier to see. And, when used properly, the pump head doesn't fly off the presta tube when pumped.
It's easy to pump as well. Gets harder as you pass 90-100psi, but I think that's expected.
Anyways, after almost a decade of use, it seems like it's starting to leak occasionally. I'll start pumping and I'll hear some leakage in the cylinder. Still works fine, just a little harder to get started. Needless to say, I'll be picking up another one of these.
