1.0 Flawed design - leaks

I really wanted to like this newly designed Camelbak bladder. I'm a fan of the previous models and this one has some great features. But, it has a FATAL flaw. When filled at or near capacity, any pressure on the bladder causes it to leak from the fill valve. I thought the first one I purchased was a fluke, but it occurs in both replacements as well. Avoid this bladder.

I've always used Camelbak products, but my old-style reservoirs were getting funky. I was REALLY wary of buying the new Antidote reservoirs after reading so many complaints about leakage, but I took a chance thinking I could just return them if they didn't work out. Well, I wound up buying 3 of the 100 oz pouches for various packs, plus a 70 oz. version for a kids' pack. All have been put through the paces: filled completely, packed with other gear and used on mountain bike and hiking trips. No leaks whatsoever. I am careful to close the lids properly. You have to line up the arrow on the cap with the proper guide mark on the reservoir. I can't say a single bad thing about them, and it's not for lack of trying. The wide mouth opening is great. I can reach my hand inside for drying. (The 100-oz reservoirs have two chambers in the bottom portion, so I do hang those pouches for full drying, but I can easily reach in to wipe up the water that pools below the opening when the pouch is inverted. A great buy and I'd get more. I have no affiliation with Camelbak other than being a very satisfied customer.

Camelbak really got this one right! Many of the shortcomings of the previous reservoir have been addressed.
-The detachable hose makes filling the reservoir easy since you can remove it from the pack without removing the tube. In addition, the quick-release tube allows for add-ons like the the in-line filter.
-The built in "drying rack" allows the reservoir to be easily dried for storage or after cleaning.
-The new 1/4 turn cap is excellent! I used to struggle to open and properly seal the caps of the old-style reservoir but this new feature makes opening and closing the top a breeze.
-The center baffle does a great job of re-distributing the water across the back, making for better weight-distribution, a smaller form-factor and easier loading into the pack.
-The slide-in handle to hang the reservoir in a pack is way more convenient than the previous loop and hook system.
Overall Camelbak has taken what might seem to be a basic component and made it user-friendly in ways I never dreamed of. A great improvement to an already excellent product.
